Study of Genetic Diversity among Crataegus Species (Hawthorn) Using ISSR Markers in Iran
Authors
Abstract:
Crataegus spp. are used for horticultural and medicinal purposes. The medicinal importance of Crataegus is attributed to components such as flavonoids, procyanidin, aromatic acid, and cardiotonic amines. The genetic relationships among the five Iranian Crataegus species including C. aronia, C. pontica, C. meiery, C. monogyna, and C. pentagyna were assessed using inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR) technique. Six primers generated 79 products in total, of which 71 were polymorphic (89.9%), with an average of 13.1 bands per primer. The percentage of polymorphic bands ranged from 77 to 100. Primer 856 produced the highest while primer 845 the lowest number of bands. The Jaccard’s similarity coefficient derived from ISSR marker analysis ranged from 0.164 to 0.337 which represents very high gene variation among the species of Crataegus in Iran. This studies will indicate important clues in understanding genotype relationship which may further assist in planning and developing breeding strategies to improve medicinal properties of this genus.

Genetic Diversity among Some Tilapia species Based on ISSR Markers
Inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) analysis was used to develop fish species-specific molecular markers for four Tilapia species (Oreochromis niloticus, Oreochromis aureus, Tilapia zillii and Sarotherodon galilaeus). 12 ISSR primers were tested to assess the effectiveness of ISSR analysis in discriminating among the four applied fish species. Some ISSR markers were detected as species-specific...
full textAssessment of genetic diversity on populations of three satureja species in Iran using ISSR markers
As we know, Savory herb is one of the most important medicinal plants of Iran that belongs to Lamiaceae family which about 284 species have been identified in the world. Iran, as one of the most important repositories of Savory germplasm in the world, has about 16 species of Satureja genus. Because of so many useful medicinal properties of Savory, this plant has been considered in many recent s...
full textStudy of Genetic Diversity of Some Allium L. Species Based on ISSR Markers in Kurdistan Province
Genus Allium L. contains very taxonomically complex sections, especially the subgenus Melanocrommyum. The systematic position of the species in each section has been revised many times over time. In the present study, the relationship between 32 ecotypes belonging to 10 different species of Allium was investigated using ISSR markers. The nine primers used produced 166 polymorphic bands (average...
full textEvaluation of Genetic Diversity among Some Common Fig Using RAPD and ISSR Molecular Markers
The common fig (Ficus carica L.), one of the most important fruit species, belongs to Moraceae family and is widely distributed in Iran. In this study, genetic variations among some genotypes of common fig collected from six different regions of Ilam province (Iran) were evaluated based on RAPD and ISSR markers. A total of 73 and 29 alleles were produced by 14 RAPD (with their sizes ranging fro...
full textStudy of Genetic Diversity of Glycyrrizha glabra L. Populations Using ISSR Molecular Markers
Twenty-two G. glabra populations were used to study the genetic diversity of ISSR molecular markers. 12 primers were used to amplification of genomic DNA fragments of G. glabra populations. High genetic diversity based on ISSR markers was observed among individuals. A total of 130 bands were formed and 105 bands were polymorphic. The mean polymorphism percentage among studied populations was 80...
